How Etsy fees work
Etsy charges sellers three main fees: a listing fee each time you publish or renew an item, a transaction fee on every sale, and a payment processing fee. This calculator subtracts all three from your revenue, then subtracts your item and shipping costs, to show your true profit.
Current Etsy fees (2026)
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per item (renews every 4 months) |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of total sale price (including shipping) |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 per transaction (US) |
Additional fees may apply: offsite ads (15% if you make a sale through an Etsy ad), currency conversion (2.5%), and regulatory operating fees in some regions.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take per sale?
On a typical $25 sale with $5 shipping (US), Etsy takes approximately: $0.20 listing fee + $1.95 transaction fee (6.5% of $30) + $1.15 payment processing (3% + $0.25) = $3.30 total. You keep $26.70 before your own costs.
Is Etsy worth it for small sellers?
It depends on your margins. Etsy's total fees typically run 9-12% of the sale price. If your item cost plus shipping cost is less than 40% of your revenue, you can usually maintain a healthy 40-50% profit margin. Anything under 20% margin is hard to sustain.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the total sale amount, including shipping charges. This surprises many new sellers. If you charge $5 for shipping, Etsy takes 6.5% of that $5 too.
What are offsite ads and do they cost extra?
Offsite ads are Etsy ads shown on Google, Facebook, and Instagram. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases from you within 30 days, Etsy charges an additional 15% fee. Sellers making over $10,000/year are automatically enrolled and cannot opt out.
How do I price my Etsy items to make a profit?
A common formula: (Item cost + Shipping cost) ÷ (1 - 0.10) × 2. This assumes Etsy takes about 10% in fees and you want a 50% profit margin. For a $8 item with $4.50 shipping: ($12.50 ÷ 0.90) × 2 = $27.78 minimum listing price.
